Give airports on long-term lease: Sitaram Yechury

Kolkata: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation will seek a rollback of the Manmohan Singh government's airport privatization plan and instead suggest that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) be given the authority to give the facilities on long-term lease to private airport operators, both domestic and international.
Speaking at the launch of Trans Bharat Aviation flight training institute in Behala on Friday, the standing committee chairman Sitaram Yechury said the report on privatization of Kolkata, Chennai and five other airports has been adopted on Thursday and would be placed before the Rajya Sabha chairman soon.
While refusing to divulge the contents of the report till the formality of handover is completed, the Rajya Sabha and CPM politburo member made known his and others' view against sale of public assets to private entities.
