IndiGo, SpiceJet lead pack in October as domestic traffic rises

New Delhi:  India's low-cost carriers dominated the race in October as domestic air traffic for the month grew 10% over the same month last year.
Low-cost carriers IndiGo and SpiceJetBSE 2.33 % were number one and two, respectively , in terms of the market share, taking the maximum advantage out of the growing market. During October, domestic airlines carried 50.08 lakh passengers compared with 45.55 lakh in the same month last year.
October 2013, like the previous year, saw many festivals with Durga Puja, Navratri, Dussera and Eid being celebrated . In 2013, the festivals were celebrated a week earlier than the same month last year.
Air traffic in October also improved over September 2013 when domestic airlines carried 44.65 lakh passengers. The growth in October over the previous month was 12.1%. IndiGo continued to be the market leader with a 30.2% market share while SpiceJet had a 20% market share.
