Mangalore: The recent verdict by Mumbai labour court directing Air India to pay Rs 8 crore compensation to the family of Zlatko Glusica, the pilot who was killed in the IX 812 crash in Mangalore on 22 May 2010, has brought a sense of relief to his family.
The relief is not because of the monetary compensation that was paid, but because his dignity has been upheld, said his kin.
"Money cannot bring back our father, but at least his soul will rest in peace because all this while Air India has been disrespectful to his family. We are informed about the long appeals but at least we feel that the Indian court has honoured the dignity of our lives," told Alexander Glusica, the son of the deceased pilot to TOI in an e-mail communique through his lawyer Yeshwanth Shenoy.
Shenoy, president of 812 Foundation who represented the family of the deceased pilot, said this was probably the highest compensation ever ordered by any court in India and therefore the appeal by Air India to the high court is a certainty.
