Ministry steps in as police, DIAL bicker over rent at IGI Airport

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has expressed reservations over Delhi International Airport Limited's (DIAL) decision to charge the Delhi Police a rent for providing security on Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) premises.
In a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Home Ministry has termed the airport operator's decision as "not justified" on the ground that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is stationed on its premises free of charge.
Owing to this disagreement, the proposed project of a hi-tech police station-cum-office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the IGIA is now in limbo.
The letter, dated September 27, 2013, states that while CISF personnel are given free office space by DIAL and are also paid by them, the Delhi Police is not paid anything by DIAL, and is instead being charged a lease amount.
