Navi Mumbai airport: Aviation NOC requirement opposed

Navi Mumbai: The redevelopment activity in Navi Mumbai has come to a standstill as the aviation department has still not earmarked the funnel area (the area where the aircrafts land or take-off) for the Navi Mumbai airport. This issue was raised by NCP corporator Raju Shinde in the general body (GB) meeting of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation held on Friday. Corporators cutting across party lines supported Shinde.
"The aviation department has made it mandatory to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from them for any redevelopment," Shinde said. He added that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) should ask the aviation department to demarcate the funnel area for the airport at the earliest.
Even the other corporators raised questions about the need for every construction in the city to obtain an NOC. "One can understand aviation ministry making NOC mandatory for high rises. But making it compulsory for redevelopment of ground plus one structures is ridiculous. The civic body should get it resolved at the earliest," said Vaibhav Gaikwad, NCP corporator from Vashi.
