Study on for Navi Mumbai Airport's Plan Sea

Belapur: Even as ‘uncertainty’ prevails over the viability of the proposed international airport in Navi Mumbai, thanks to opposition from a section of project-affected persons (PAPs), City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has finalised another option for the mega project. The body, however, maintained that its priority is to ensure that the proposed airport comes up at the original location.
“As announced by the chief minister, a Netherlands-based company has been entrusted with the job of conducting a feasibility study for a project along the Panvel creek by setting up an island there. The company in question has been instrumental in turning such projects into reality in other countries, and has confirmed that it is feasible in Navi Mumbai also. The Dutch company conducted a preliminary study and an advanced study pertaining to setting up an island along the creek will be over in the next six months. It will take 3-4 years for the company to set up the island, after which the construction of the airport will begin. But, this is just an alternate plan since we want the project to come up on land,” Bhatia added.
