Tendering for Navi Mumbai airport project may be delayed

Navi Mumbai: The global tendering process for the proposed international airport project, which is scheduled for the first week of December, may be delayed because of the existing face-off between villagers and the committee over land acquisition.
A source said, "The process looks doubtful now, as bidders won't be encouraged till all the hurdles are cleared."
Even 10 days after the villagers and the committee arrived at a consensus, there has still been no breakthrough in the impasse with people from eight of the villages opposed to the compensation.
The government's stand of 'take it or leave it' is now juxtaposed with "no new deal, no land," as pointed out by Mahendra Patil, sarpanch of Pargaon village panchayat, who is spearheading the opposition.
