Two ‘unqualified’ Jet Airways pilots continuing as examiners

New Delhi: In a serious violation of directorate general civil aviation (DGCA) rules, two Jet Airways management pilots have been found continuing as examiners despite the validity of their mandatory standardization check has lapsed.
The discrepancy has been revealed in an RTI reply, a copy of which is with TOI, in which the aviation regulator stated that mandatory standardization check of Captain NT Malkani (Boeing 737) and Captain Shain (Airbus- 330) were done in early and mid-2011.
For pilots the biennial standardization checks are sacrosanct checks of proficiency records as per the DGCA regulation for examiners and training assignments in the airlines.
As per the DGCA RTI reply, the standardization check of Captain Malkani was done on 21 January 2011, which lapsed in January this year, and in case of Captain Shain it was done on 17 June 2011 that lapsed in July this year.
In an email response, a spokesperson stated that the airways is fully aware of the fact that the validity of standardization checks of the pilots was taken two years ago and DGCA has been kept informed regarding the same.
