Tyres deflate, Air India flight stuck in Tashkent

New Delhi: Air India's flagship flight, the non-stop Delhi-New York daily, had a double whammy in store for its 200-odd passengers on Saturday. Soon after leaving the Indian airspace, a cabin crew reported sick and then the pilot decided to divert to the nearest airfield-Tashkent.
While landing there, as many as four tyres of the aircraft (AI 101) got burst or got deflated that left the Boeing-777 and its passengers stranded there. While the crew member was luckily not found to be very ill by the Uzbek doctors who checked him, passengers had to spend several hours at the transit lounge of Tashkent airport.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered a probe into the landing that left four tyres out of breath or air in this case! It has sought a report from the airline into all details of the landing.
