Villagers hint at compromise on proposed airport land deal

Navi Mumbai:  Villagers, whose land needs to be acquired for the proposed international airport project, gave the first signs of readiness to compromise during a meeting with top officials of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) on Friday.
They said they were ready to arrive at a consensus on the land deal offered by the planning body and their own demands. While Cidco has offered 22.5% of developed land at Pushpak Nagar, the villagers want 35%.
The compensation model has been the proverbial thorn in the flesh. Now, with cautious optimism replacing the previous deadlock, both sides ended the over two-hour meeting at Cidco Bhawan on a somewhat positive note.
