Aranmula airport: Govt concealed facts from Centre

Thiruvananthapuram:  The state government had concealed that the promoters of Aranmula airport had filled a large swathe of wetland in a report submitted to the ministry of environment and forests.
Documents accessed by the TOI show that the government had amended the portion that talks about illegal filling of wetland from the report prepared by environment principal secretary James Varghese before it was sent to the Centre. The edited report was cleared by chief minister Oommen Chandy and industries minister P K Kunhalikutty.
The MoEF had, on February 16, 2012, sought a report from the state government regarding the filling of wetland and paddy field for the airport project in Aranmula. The environment department had prepared the report in reply to this, in which the secretary had written his remarks on the matter.
