Arbitration won't obstruct airport development, says Saleem

Arbitration over the premature termination of the Male airport contract with India's GMR Group will not be an obstacle to the development of the airport, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) managing director Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem said Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with Haveeru on Thursday, Saleem said the arbitration being a legal matter had no connection to any capital investment on the airport.
He further said the outcome of the arbitration, would not have any bearing on the development of the airport. In that regard, he said as arbitration was primarily based on dialogue, it will not hinder any efforts to develop the airport.
“The arbitration and the development of the airport have no connection. Arbitration is a separate legal proceeding. It will not have any effect on the airport development,” Saleem said.
According to Saleem, investors do not seem deterred by the pending arbitration as several foreign parties have already expressed interest to invest in the airport.
