Centre’s nod for CIDCO plan to invite bids from pvt players

Mumbai: The Union Government Friday gave its nod to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) to go ahead with the process of inviting bids from private developers to build the Navi Mumbai international airport. The Civil Aviation ministry gave the clearance to CIDCO to float Request for Qualification (RFQ).
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said Saturday, "CIDCO was awaiting the Centre's approval to float the RFQ. Residents of one village are still opposed to the rehabilitation package."
CIDCO managing director Sanjay Bhatia said the agency would soon issue the RFQ and convene pre-qualification meetings with interested bidders. Hyderabad-based GVK Group, which built the Mumbai airport, has the first right of refusal. Other infrastructure giants such as Larsen and Toubro and Reliance Infrastructure have shown interest in bidding for the project. The project cost as per the RFQ is Rs 9,990 crore for the first phase to build an airport with a capacity to handle 10 million passengers per annum. "We are hoping to issue the RFQ in 15 days' time. We have started the joint measurement.
