Mumbai: A Chembur resident, who had travelled to Qatar for work, mysteriously died in Doha last week, his family said on Monday as it pressed Indian and Qatari authorities for a probe.
Jitender Singh Khalsa, 38, an expert in handling paperwork, was found dead in his seat at Doha International Airport's departure lounge on November 25, according to the Qatari firm that hired him. He had suffered a cardiac arrest.
But Jitender's family has disputed this account, saying it seems improbable that no one noticed a man in pain inside an airport. They also said Jitender had travelled abroad for work many times and always informed the family about his plans to return home —which he strangely didn't this time.
The Khalsas suspect his death could be linked to the exploitation of foreign workers in the Middle East, and have refused to accept his body until an investigation is ordered. The Indian embassy in Doha has written to the Qatari government, forwarding the family's request for security camera footage of the departure lounge around the time Jitender died.
