Congo flyer hides Rs 5cr drugs inside bedsheets, nabbed

Mumbai: A Congo national who was to board a flight to Nairobi was arrested by the Mumbai airport Customs officials early on Sunday after contraband worth Rs 5 crore was found in his bag. The drug was concealed inside neatly folded and packed bedsheets.
"White crystalline power purported to be amphetamine was found in the bag of a Kenya Airways passenger. It weighed 5,015 gm and its value in the illicit drug market would be Rs 5.01 crore," said an official from the Customs Air Intelligence Unit. Around 3am, Bokele Wetoko, carrying two suitcases and a cloth handbag, was on his way to the immigration counter when he was accosted by the Customs officials after Anju, an eight-year-old Labrador, raised an alarm. The contraband was concealed in slim pouches of 200 gm each that were sandwiched in cardboards, the kind that is found packed between folds of new bedsheets. The bedsheets with the cardboards containing the contraband were packed into the passenger's cloth bag.
