Dreamliner to Kolkata stuck, AI staff flee IGI as flyers get angry

New Delhi: Exasperated and furious Air India passengers, many of them kept waiting for nearly the whole of Sunday for a 2.20pm Delhi-Kolkata Dreamliner flight, gheraoed the airline counter demanding explanation for the delay when they found the staff had fled. Until reports last came in at 11.30pm, the fate of the flight was uncertain.
Many of these passengers had flown in early from the UK and Canada for the Kolkata flight and were stranded without any information from Air India about the fate of their flight.
"As scientists we work for government institutions. We are compelled to travel by national carriers. But we've been stuck here for the whole day due to Air India's callousness. Why are we helping this sick airline?" asked Dr Dibyendu Nandy, associate professor of IISER Kolkata.
"I've been waiting for the flight since 2.20pm on Sunday. The timing kept changing. Now, no one from Air India can be seen at the airport. I've arrived from Boston and am tired. Like me, there are many people traveling from London and Paris. This is complete callousness on part of Air India," said Dr Sugata Bose, Harvard University professor and the head of Presidency Mentor's Group.
