Gamharia villagers stir over proposed Tata international airport

Jamshedpur: There is no sign of a let-up in the opposition to the proposed international airport of Tata Steel at Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharswan district with a section of villagers demanding to shift the project to some other location.
In a meeting at Murgaguttu on Monday, residents of a dozen villages of Gamharia block resolved to intensify their agitation against the proposed airport. "All we want is a shifting of the airport from the proposed site to some other location so that agricultural land is spared," said Siridharpur village head Jaikan Tudu. The villagers argued that a section of fertile land, which is likely to be acquired for the airport, will affect families dependent on it for a livelihood.
Members of the Bhumi Raksha Sangarsh Samity (BRSS) that is leading the movement said nine villages namely Upar Burudih, Burudih, Bardih, Rekhadih, Riyalda, Santhaldih, Siridharpur, Hesselguttu, and Sodhipur are likely to suffer marginally if the project site is not shifted.
