Government directionless on second Mumbai Airport

While discussing an alternate site for Mumbai's second airport, on reclaimed land at Madh Island, the government still clings on to the Panvel site. And that's despite the landowners being adamant on their demands, and the project being clearly unviable.
The cost of the project is said to have gone up to Rs 15,000 crore. However, that is a gross underestimate for a fullyoperational airport. Site-preparation cost at that very difficult site alone could work out to about a third of the total estimated cost. Delhi airport's Terminal 3 and an extra runway cost over Rs 12,000 crore. Moreover, private developers also want the airport to be swanky and some have to-date displayed inadequate cost control.
