Night landing at Jagdalpur airport soon

Raipur: In a bid to handle emergency situations, like the one that arose, post massacre of Congress leaders in Jhiram Ghati on May 25, which required evacuation of the injured, the state government has given clearance for night landing facilities at Jagdalpur airport.
According to sources, Jagdalpur airport, which incidentally has no commercial flights operating, except some private charters, will have night landing facilities from next year. The project, costing nearly Rs 1.5 crores, has been cleared and would commence soon.
The move was confirmed by state aviation secretary, Subodh Kumar Singh, who admitted that the primary objective behind it was to handle emergency situations. He said government has already released funds to airport authority for this project.
Airport director, Anil Rai said the work on installation of night landing systems would take about a year to complete. He said tenders for work contract are likely to be issued shortly.
