Repairs on anvil for cyclone-hit Rangeilunda airstrip

Bhubaneswar:  Ganjam district's Rangeilunda airstrip, which was severely damaged by cyclone Phailin in October, will be renovated soon.
Since October 14, no aircraft has been able to land on the airstrip because the runway has developed potholes, official sources said.
The state government estimates that Rs 1.72 crore need to be spent on repairing runway and the boundary wall, which collapsed in the cyclone.
"About Rs 1.27 crore will spent on putting a bitumen coat on the runway and another Rs 45 lakh will be spent on erecting the boundary wall," said a general administration (GA) department official.
He said the department had sent a proposal to the special relief commissioner (SRC) to sanction funds for the repairs.
