RGIA plans its own power distribution network

Hyderabad: Vexed with frequent power disruptions, including load shedding in summer, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has decided to have its own dedicated power distribution network. If licence is granted for the exclusive network, the Hyderabad airport will probably become the first airport to have such a facility.
The GMR Hyderabad Airport Power Distribution Limited (GHAPDL) has applied for power distribution licence to the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission recently. GHAPDL was incorporated in September 18, 2012 as a 100% subsidiary of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL).
GMR has taken the decision to have a separate power distribution company due to frequent power outages that have not only been affecting maintenance and operations of the airport works, but also preventing potential investors to set up their units on the airport premises.
