Special plane flown in for anti-hijacking drill by NSG

The National Security Guard last night conducted a real-time anti-hijack drill at Mumbai airport. The drill was conducted following specific intelligence inputs that terrorists may try and hijack a flight from Mumbai airport between December 25 and January 1.
A team of 24 commandoes from the NSG's antihijack squad landed in Mumbai at 12.14 am Tuesday on an Air India flight. The aircraft, which was used exclusively for the drill, was anchored into the isolation bay around 12.20 am. They were soon joined by an assault team from the NSG's Mumbai hub. While other NSG commandoes played the hijackers - number between 8 and 10 - CISF personnel played the passengers and the airline staff.
The NSG also involved the local police - including language experts - in the exercise. An officer involved in the drill said, "The plane landed in the early hours of Tuesday. The Mumbai police as well as security agencies from across the country are involved in the drill and the idea is to share our knowledge in counter-terrorism. The Kandahar Indian Airlines hijack incident is obviously at the cen tre of this drill."
