UP govt to buy aircraft for VVIP movement

Lucknow: The Akhilesh Yadav government's desire to provide a smooth, state-of-the-art flying experience to up to 10 VVIPs at a time is about to set the state exchequer back by around Rs 80 crore.
The department of civil aviation has invited expressions of interest (EOI) from manufacturers worldwide to provide a modern aircraft to the state by the end of this month. The government will simultaneously be selling off at least four old aircraft, including the one used by it until earlier this year.
According to the tender document, the new pressurised aircraft will be powered by a twin turbine engine with a capacity to carry a minimum of seven and a maximum of 10 passengers, excluding pilots. The aircraft will be able to cruise at an average speed of more than 800 kmph and will have the capacity to fly up to 1,600 nautical miles without refuelling.
