24x7 Flight Operations from Vizag in Rough Winds

Visakhapatnam: Confusion continues to prevail over the commencement of 24/7 flight operations at the Visakhapatnam Airport as the city-based organisations and citizens dismissed the claims of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) that round-the-clock flight operations have indeed begun at the airport with effect from January 1.
The organisations maintain that the naval authorities have failed to keep all facilities like Instrumental Landing System (ILS) ready to enable flight operations also at night.
In an official release Sunday, the ENC announced that 24/7 flight operations at the airport have commenced from January 1 this year. The airport, which is being operated by the Navy, has made considerable efforts to increase the watch hours for continuous operations in response to the growing requirement of the Port City.
However, though the ENC started 24/7 operations, no new proposals were found to utilise the additional hours that have now been made available. Moreover, the ENC is still waiting for the civil operators to make use of the 24/7 facility at the city airport.
