Directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials seized 2.6kg of gold and 12kg of saffron, having a combined value of Rs 85 lakh, from two passengers who arrived at the Karipur Airport from Dubai on Saturday.
According to DRI officials, 2kg of gold was seized from Abdul Shameer Vilayil (29), of Thrissur, who arrived at the airport in Indian Airlines flight IX-344 in the morning.
In another seizure, officials nabbed Jaffer P P (29), of Kannur, while trying to smuggle 600 grams of gold concealed inside the beading of his trolley bag in the form of a thin gold rod.
