9kg of gold seized in airport over 6 days

New Delhi: The biggest gold haul at Delhi airport so far this year—of 6.23kg—was intercepted last Thursday. This came five days before another seizure on Tuesday of 2.9kg of gold. This brings the combined gold intercepted in last six days to nearly 9kg and the estimated worth of seized gold to Rs 2.3 crore.
Officials at the airport who oversaw the seizure of 6.23kg gold said it was for the first time they saw such a sophisticated level of coordination between the smugglers. In the first case, smugglers, landing from different flights to Delhi, divided up the gold between themselves. In the second, gold was being smuggled by a woman.
