Airfare deals for last-minute international flyers up for grabs

Mumbai: These are good times for procrastinators. Currently, around half a dozen foreign airlines have lined up various discount fare offers for last-minute travel and even up to summer. The catch is that not many seats are up for sale under these offers and, in most cases, fares on flights to the West are cheaper only by a few thousand rupees. Despite these drawbacks, compared with the previous year, there are savings in store for the astute bargain hunter.
On Friday, Dubai-based full-service carrier Emirates and Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost airline Air Asia announced schemes to promote travel during the coming three months.
Qatar Airways started the trend early this week, but currently, they have offers only on business class tickets. Other airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and Air India, too, have discount offers going on, all of which has brought down the cost of a last-minute return ticket on the Mumbai-London route to as low as Rs 44,000.
