Airlines try to make most of lean season

Mumbai: The recent flash sales for advance purchase of air tickets are not only providing incentives to customers for early bookings, but are helping airline companies to garner at least 20-25 per cent revenue in the lean January-March quarter.
According to industry experts, the recent offers are targeted at the summer bookings. However, the seats that have been put on the offer are those that are likely to remain empty despite the heavy passenger load expected in summers.
Suraj Nair, senior vice-president, strategy & planning at Thomas Cook (India), said, “The discounted offers are a strategic move to fill up inventory during the current lean travel season. It is a smart move to inspire demand and give a fillip to travel. Such offers will play a significant role, going forward.”
