Pune: The Lohegaon airport will operate 47 scheduled flights daily in a span of twelve-and-a-half hours starting January 15 due to the airport modernization work.
The IAF shares the air field runway and the air traffic control (ATC) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which manages the civil flights out of Pune. The runway will remain closed from 10 pm to 8 am every day for three months to facilitate work under the Modernisation of Air Field Infrastructure (MAFI). Since the 8 am to 10.30 am slot is reserved for Lohegaon Air Force Station (AFS), the total time available for civil flights will be 12 hours and 30 minutes.
"The revised schedule has been worked out in such a manner that none of the existing flights have been cancelled," AAI Pune director Manoj Kumar Gangal told TOI on Saturday. "In fact, nearly four to five non-scheduled flights that operate out of Pune every day will also be accommodated during this available time, over and above the scheduled flights," Gangal said. Non-scheduled flights are mainly small aircraft owned by various corporate firms based in the city.
