Airport security tightened over fears of hijack

Mumbai: Security is being tightened at airports across the country following fears of an aircraft hijack to demand the release of Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal and a tip-off that an explosive device may be detonated in New Delhi.
"Recent inputs are indicative that IM operatives may organize the hijacking of aircraft or forcible intrusion at uncategorized, smaller airports which are vulnerable to demand the release of Yasin Bhatkal,'' said the first alert sent to airport operators across India by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on Monday. It said that "entry of visitors to airports should be restricted and sale of visitor entry tickets shall be banned from January 20 to 31".
Non-passengers can enter some small airports with 'entry tickets'.
The note warned about a threat from a hired/hijacked helicopter, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, aero-model para-glider or IEDs hidden in perfume bottles.
