New Delhi: Winter's worst isn't over. A week after flight operations came to a standstill due to fog in the city, a similar situation can be expected from Monday. According to the Met department, dense fog had started forming over Delhi and IGI airport on Sunday which may bring down visibility.
This condition is expected to continue till January 16. Met officials have categorized it as CAT-III dense fog during which the runway visual range is below 200 metres and general visibility is below 50 metres. Flight operations may be affected again but the exact impact it will have cannot be determined so early, they added.
Officials attribute this fresh spell of thick fog to the second western disturbance which is heading towards east. "Western disturbance, which till now had been affecting the Himalayan region, is now moving eastwards. A fresh western disturbance is expected around January 16. It is too early to say anything about its impact in Delhi and the duration for which the fog will continue,'' said a Met official.
