ARE a Shot in the Arm for Cochin Airport

Nedumbassery: Cochin International Airport Ltd has enhanced its operational facilities with the acquisition of a comprehensive aircraft recovery equipment(ARE).
According to the airport Director A C K Nair, who introduced the equipment, CIAL is the first airport in the country to own a complete state-of-the-art aircraft recovery equipment.
ARE is listed in the stipulations of the International Air Transport Association (the governing body of all airlines and airports), as well as International Civil Aviation Organisation. But Nair said, it was after the two-day closure of the runway due to an accident by a Gulf Air flight last year that  the necessity of an ARE arose.
CIAL’s newly-introduced ARE is transportable by air and capable of recovering all conventional aircraft in the range of single aisle aircraft, including Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 from an accident site.
But bigger aircraft such as wide-body aircraft have not been anticipated in the recovery target, he said.
