Security has been tightened at the airport, and airports across the country, in view of the approaching Republic Day. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security had asked airports in the metros to beef up security between January 20 and 26.
Intelligence inputs said that there could be a possible attempt to hijack an aircraft during this period. As a result, it asked for enhanced screening of passengers and vehicles at the airport entry points and also beef up surveillance at the baggage handling and cargo areas.
