Ahmedabad: Over 300 passengers of the Newark-Ahmedabad Air India flight were left gasping for breath when they heard of a possible bomb on the aircraft. However, after a thorough security check, the threat was found to be a hoax.
AI-144 Newark-Ahmedabad flight landed at 8.30pm at Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport on Friday. The flight was scheduled to land at 7.50pm. Air India officials received a call informing of a possible bomb in the aircraft carrying 340 passengers.
After receiving the call security agencies at the airport were alerted and the aircraft was taken into an isolated area. Bomb squad, state home secretary, top city police officials, intelligence officials and fire brigade arrived and inspected the aircraft.
"We received the call about a possible bomb threat. However, after a full investigation it was found to be a fake call", said S K Nanda, state home secretary and airport security committee chief.
