Panvel: Villagers from the six villages continue to oppose the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project and want the state government and Cidco to have discussions only through the newly-floated Navi Mumbai Antarrashtriya Vimantal Sangharash Samiti. In the meanwhile, the planning agency continues to have dialogues with the earlier Prakalpagrast Sangharash Samiti comprising Uran MLA Vivek Patil and Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur.
The six villages, under two Gram Panchayats, are opposing the deal that was offered by the state government on November 11, 2013, and are unwilling to accept the package. They have demanded that either Cidco or the state government should hold talks with their committee only and not any other. “We have been let down by politicians, who decided to accept the package without consulting us. We do not want them to negotiate on our behalf. We have already formed a committee comprising our people, who are well-educated and professionals and want the state government or Cidco to deal only with us,” former sarpanch of Pargaon, Mahendra Patil, said.
