Custom, immigration check facility at Bhopal airport soon

Bhopal: Raja Bhoj Airport will soon have permanent facility for immigration and custom clearances. Sources said the airport authorities are in talks with the Sri Lankan government for operating direct flights connecting Bhopal and Colombo.
When contacted, director of Raja Bhoj airport, Vivek Upadhyay confirmed that he has received the nod for setting up custom check arrangement at the airport. "The process is on. I can't disclose beyond this," he said.
He added that presently custom checking is irregular as there are no international flights from the city. Customs and immigration checks are carried out temporarily during operation of Haj flights, he said.
A large number of tourists from Sri Lanka regularly visit the Buddhist Stupas at Sanchi. They either arrive here on chartered flights or via train from New Delhi and Mumbai. With the establishment of Buddhist University at Sanchi, more tourists, academicians and visitors are visiting Sanchi, about 60 kms from Bhopal.
