Dog sniffs out Rs 7cr drugs in bag at airport

Mumbai:  About 15kg of a sedative-hypnotic drug worth over Rs 7 crore in the illegal market was seized from the check-in bag of a South African woman on Friday morning by the customs officials of the Mumbai airport.
"The Kenya Airways flyer, Jali Mandisa Monique (24), is an MBA graduate. Rarely are educated people drug carriers," said an AIU officer.
Around 4am, customs officials stopped Monique as part of their random flyer profiling practice. "She fumbled and could not reply coherently. By then Anju, our labrador, began barking to indicate presence of drugs in the check-in bag. We found 15bags, each containing over 1kg of methaqualone, wrapped in kurtas," said the officer. She has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
