New Delhi: Thick fog continues to hit air and rail traffic in Delhi. As dense fog enveloped the national capital early Monday morning, Indira Gandhi International Airport was forced to shut down temporarily. While air travellers remained stranded at the airport, similar was the scene at major railway stations as 30 trains were cancelled and many others delayed
by more than 24 hours. The Met predicts shallow fog through the day.
With the visibility below 50 metres early morning, about 90 flights stand cancelled. While a number of flights remain affected, some are still taking off since one of the runways is functional. Though visibility is now above 250 metres now, the airport will remain at
least partially closed till about 8.30 this morning. According to the weatherman, visibility is expected to improve to 100 m by 10:30 AM.
The season's worst fog on Sunday evening has led to a massive backlog. "Flight has been cancelled. No idea when we'll be put on to the next flight, we have been told to queue
up in the cold to find that out," said an international passenger.
