Fog returns, 200 flights affected at IGI

New Delhi: After about 10 days of near-perfect weather at the IGI airport, fog returned on Thursday disrupting the operations of around 200 flights. Three flights were cancelled which DIAL, the airport operator, said had happened 'due to technical reasons'.
The last dense fog spell was reported from IGI airport December 22 when it had caused severe flight disruptions. According to sources, fog started settling down at the airport late on Wednesday night. By 11:30pm visibility at the runways dropped to 200m following which Low Visibility Procedure (LVP) was initiated for about 10 hours, along with CAT I, II, IIIA and IIIB.
There was almost no flight operations between 3:30 and 6am on Thursday when visibility was around 50m, after which even CAT III fails to help a flight land or take off.
