New Delhi: Taking note of TOI's story of how an aircraft carrying 120 passengers was forced to declare fuel emergency and land blind at 'alternate' Jaipur on Sunday night when its destination Delhi had zero visibility, the aviation regulator has asked airlines to fly straight to alternate airports when IGI Airport is out of bounds for them due to bad weather. That aircraft had veered off the runway-since the pilot could not see central runway lights-while landing in Jaipur, damaging its wing and tyres badly and narrowly escaping hitting a big drain that runs parallel along the airstrip.
The directorate general of civil aviation on Tuesday deputed one of its senior officials at Delhi airport control centre to coordinate with Met department and ensure that airlines get next 12 hours fog forecast accurately.
