Bangalore: Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader was technically offloaded and not allowed to board the Mangalore-Bangalore Jet Airways flight on Tuesday night for reporting late at the Mangalore airport. To his credit, the minister did not create a scene, and according to a source, "apologised for the inconvenience and returned from the airport".
The minister, who is often caught attending several public programmes when he is at his home town Mangalore, was scheduled to return to the state capital by a Jet Airways flight at 10.15 pm. Sources at the airline explained that as per the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines, the boarding counter is closed 45 minutes prior to the flight's departure. In cases where the staff gets a confirmation that the passenger would be reporting late, a boarding pass is put aside before the counter is closed.
