Visakhapatnam: Dr Raja Ram, who was planning to visit relatives in the Port City over the weekend, logged online to book a seat for himself on a direct flight from Hyderabad to Vizag for January 11 but much to his shock found that there was only one ticket available and that too at a whopping Rs 16,241 for a one-way trip.
Dazed by the fares, he checked for alternate days only to find that the fares ranged between Rs 8,264 to Rs 17,368 for a ticket on January 10 and from Rs 12,252 to Rs 13,408 on January 12. Unwilling to shell out such a huge amount, Dr Ram is now planning a train trip. "I was really shocked to find that the air fares are around Rs 17,000 per head. Ours was a last-minute plan and now I plan to book a ticket through tatkal for train."
A majority of the direct flights from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam from January 9 to 12 this year are completely packed with one-way air fares skyrocketing to a whopping Rs 17,000 on certain flights and days. Strangely, the tickets on flights from Vizag to Hyderabad are still available in the normal range of Rs 5,200-5,400 per head.
