Ahmedabad: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has commissioned two new modern radars at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for better flight management and to reduce flight delays. The mode-S capable monopulse secondary surveillance radar (MSSR) and airport surveillance radar (ASR) were installed earlier this week but were made operational only on Monday evening.
Now passengers flying out of the city or landing here can expect more timely and safer arrivals and departures. "The new radars will reduce delays by routing aircraft directly and making optimum use of air space," said a senior officer of air traffic control (ATC).
"We were waiting for the procedural certificate, a final approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for the last one week", said an ATC official.
