Villages pursuing 'better deal' fight on

Navi Mumbai: The villagers, who are opposed to the " best airport deal" worked out by the government, met at the Cheroba Maidan in Koli village on Tuesday to continue their fight for a better deal.
The public meeting, organized on Makar Sakaranti, also saw volunteers from mahila mandal and other local organizations, who shouted slogans about their rights to land.
The mood was upbeat and repeated references were made to the legendary personality, D B Patil, who had played a major role in getting 12.5% compensation for land acquired.
The villagers were supported by retired Supreme Court and Bombay High Court judges, P B Sawant and B G Kolse Patil, who came from Pune. "We will work under their guidance," said Mahendra Patil, who has been leading the opposition. He lost the recent panchayat election, but has cobbled together support under the aegis of newly-formed Navi Mumbai Antar Rashtriya Vimathal Shetkari Sangarsh Samiti.
