4.7 Kg Gold Seized at KIA

Bangalore: The Kempe Gowda International Airport is apparently turning out to be a hotbed for gold smuggling. In their latest operation, Customs officials have seized a total of 4.748 kg of gold valued at Rs.1.44 crore in four cases since Monday night.
The officials apprehended Nagoor Meeran, a native of Chennai, who arrived from Singapore by a Singapore Airlines flight on Monday. They found that he had concealed four gold biscuits, weighing 450 gm in all, in the battery pack of an emergency lamp.
The next day, officials caught Siva Kumar, a native of Tiruchy, who also arrived from Singapore by a Tiger Airways flight. The officials seized 732 gm of gold that he had concealed in the form of beadings in his strolley .
