Airport taximen's meet inconclusive

Panaji:  The crucial meeting with airport taxi operators to make them operate under a single counter system remained inconclusive on Thursday, though officials are optimistic that the system will be in place soon.
The government intends to have the single counter system in place when the new terminus at Dabolim airport is commissioned on February 18. The task has become difficult as 350-odd taximen operating under the two associations; tourist taxi union and united taximen association are at loggerheads.
A government official said, initially, taximen were totally opposed to introduction of a single counter system but, now, they are open to the idea and also participate in the discussions.
The yellow-and-black taxi operators are opposed to open their space to other operators as they fear they will lose their supremacy if a single counter system comes into force.
