Thrissur: Three new and eight rare species of spiders have been spotted at the proposed site for Aranmula airport. The spiders were spotted by a research team from the biodiversity research institute of Irinjalakuda Christ College.
The team, led by Dr Sudhikumar A V, arachnologist of zoology department in the college, has found 45 different species of spiders at the site in a month-long study. "It is the first time that four spiders - genus cybaeus of cybaeidae family, genus micrommata of sparassidae family, genus orthobula of corinnidae family and genus neoscona of araneidae family are spotted in India," Sudhirkumar said.
