Cabinet nod for airport rehab deal likely soon

Navi Mumbai:  The mandatory cabinet nod for relief and rehabilitation package for the development of the proposed international airport is likely to happen soon. It will come before the election code of conduct comes into force.
There is also speculation of a rejig in the package as a cross-section of villagers have bitterly opposed it, even as the global RFQ (Request For Qualification) tender for the project was floated on February 5.
Sources said the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has made little progress in joint measurement of land with the villagers. After several hiccups in land acquisition, observers felt that the cabinet may be forced to re-look at the relief and rehabilitation package. While the deal got the chief minister's nod and was approved by the prime minister, both from the Congress, the alliance partner, NCP in the Democratic Front government and its leader, Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, could also play a huge role.
