Cabinet to meet over CAA bill to replace DGCA, regain category I status from FAA

New Delhi: In a move that will help India in fetching back the category I status, the Union Cabinet is meeting at 4.30 pm on Friday to clear the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Bill.
“The cabinet is serious about clearing all the conditions required to get back the Category I status. In fact, the CAA bill is the only item on the agenda today,” said a source in the government.
The CAA will replace the current aviation regulator DGCA and will fulfill one of the promise made to the US FAA during their audit in December.
The FAA downgraded India to category II in January due to government not fulfilling these criteria.
