The Cochin International Airport Limited that operates country’s first corporate airport sought to make a giant leap in the aviation sector by launching a host of new projects, including an international terminal complex, at Nedumbaserry on Saturday.
The foundation stone for the new terminal costing Rs8 billion was laid by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The terminal, with three-times more built-up area of 1.5 million sq ft, will have facilities to handle 10 million passengers a year.
The two-level terminal will have 15 aerobridges, 19 boarding gates, over 100 check-in counters, 100 immigration counters, duty free shops of 30,000 square feet at departure and arrival lounges and six baggage conveyer belts. The new terminal is likely to be opened to the public in two-and-a-half years.
